Learning To Drive In Dundee

uk approved driving instructor

Due to Covid 19 which has prevented Driving Instructors from providing Driving Tuition I have come to a decision on where to go from here.

I am moving to Portsmouth on 1st April 2021. It has not been an easy decision to make because I have a lot of clients in Dundee.

The position is that my wife and I bought a house in Portsmouth a few years ago as it was our intention to sell up in Scotland and move closer to Dawn’s (my wife) family. Unfortunately shortly after buying the house in Portsmouth we experienced circumstances which made it almost impossible to move.

The situation normalised in 2019 so we again made arrangements to sell up in Scotland and move to Portsmouth. The house was put on the market and a buyer was found and we sold in September 2019.

As I had a lot of clients in Dundee we decided to rent for a period of months so I could wind down, getting my clients through their driving tests. The plan was not to take on any new clients, but to get existing clients passed and then move South in the early months of 2020.

Now comes the first spanner in the works  –  Covid 19.  Due to Covid we were unable to move due to the Lockdown imposed by the Government. My Driving Instruction income vanished overnight and due to Driving Instruction not being my only source of income I did not qualify from Government Financial Assistance. This resulted in the loss of a substantial amount of income.

In order to get us through this difficult patch we rented out our house in Portsmouth and this brought in some income in order to tide us over.

The rental was for a year from March 2020 until March 2021. The idea now being to move in 2021 which after the Lockdown was over would give me plenty of time to wind down my driving instruction business. And now comes the second spanner in the works. Covid 19!

Due to Covid it has not been possible to get all of my clients who are test ready, driving tests. Additionally, because of this new Lockdown since January my driving instruction income has gone but so to has the income from renting our house in Portsmouth as our renters decided to finish their rental agreement  early in order to move back in with their parents as they could no longer afford the rent. All down to Covid 19.

I tell you. If this Covid 19 does not kill you, it can cripple you financially!

So here we are. No income from Driving Instruction, no income from house rental, but having to pay rent on a flat in Auchterhouse that we can no longer afford to live in. We have no alternative but to move out so we have made arrangements for this move to take place on 1st April 2021.

My commitment to my clients.

I curently have several clients with tests booked but due to the restrictions on driving lessons and driving tests it will be May before anything happens.

In the circumstances, I am prepared to come back to Dundee during May in order to assist those clients with tests booked. Whilst in Dundee I will happily continue to do driving lessons with existing clients if they have not yet made arrangements to move to another Driving Instructor.

Anyone that knows me well knows that I am punctual and very reliable and this decision has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make.

I would dearly love to stay in Dundee and keep on doing Driving Instruction. I have a fantastic group of clients and if circumstances permitted I would stay in Dundee until every one of you is a fully qualified driver. I hope you understand that this is just not possible.
